Yes, we are here in sunny southern California. The "Day Six" drive was short, but awful. More mountains, wind and LA traffic made it yet another white-knuckle day. After the journey in, we went straight into unloading the truck. It was a long process, but, oh, how good it felt to turn in the truck and get back into the tiny and zippy Honda Civic.
As we get our feet wet we're staying with my cousin Fred Miller. He's been kind enough to give a homeless couple refuge. (And we can't thank him enough!) We are in Burbank (San Fernando Valley (SFV)), which is just outside of the main LA/Hollywood area. Things are very pleasant here, just very busy. I think that's the LA story across the board; it's like anywhere else, just busier.
We went to grocery store today and suffered a little bit of sticker shock. (Some things are "normally" priced, but others you have to stare at for a minute to believe.) We've driven around a bit and are starting to get familiar with the main roads. It's gonna take awhile to become old pros.
Here are some of our current vitals:
--Gas is $3.17-$3.44/gallon (changes every 2 miles)
--Temperature is 89 degrees (HIGH) 65 degrees (LOW) The SFV is usually 5-7 degrees hotter than LA proper.
--A box of Frosted Mini-Wheats is $4.50 ($2.33 in Winston-Salem, NC)

What?....no picture to see of the storage unit fully loaded? One day your closet will be that size and you will remember when all your stuff fit in a 10 x 10 storage unit!

I know! I wanted to see a picture of the fully loaded storage unit, too! Glad you made it safe and sound. I know you've got to be glad to have that behind you! Give me a call when you can, Ker!
